MasterCard Into Supporting State Cryptocurrencies
March 20, 2018
MasterCard holds interest in dealing with cryptocurrencies controlled by world regulators, as the the co-president of Mastercard’s Asia-Pacific business Ari Sarker said.
“If governments look to create national digital currency we’d be very happy to look at those in a more favourable way… So long as it’s backed by a regulator and the value . . . it is not anonymous, it is meeting all the regulatory requirements, I think that would be of greater interest for us to explore”.
Sarker added, now MasterCard is testing pilot program for Japan and Singapore people to take BTC off their credit cards.
“We are not operating trading of bitcoin through the MasterCard network [...] [The pilot] is a toe in the water, we're fully cognisant of the reputational risk”, he noted.
Remember, MasterCard’s CEO Ajay Banga would also claim in October last year, the company is ready for accepting state cryptocurrencies and called all the rest digital coins a junk.
