Central Bank of Canada Assesses BTC Popularity

According to the survey conducted by the Central Bank of Canada, 85% of Canada’s population are aware of Bitcoin (BTC), while at the end of 2016 the index equaled to 64%. At the same time the number of users has increased from 2.9% to 5%.
In the Quebec province Bitcoin awareness has risen more dramatically, from 49% in 2016 to 77% in 2017. 80% of female know about cryptocurrencies which is 26% higher than in the previous year. In general, the trends hold. For instance, in 2016 Bitcoin was familiar to 75% of male and 54% of female citizens, while in 2017 the ratio was 91% against 80%, the survey says.
In 2016 the main reason for acquiring Bitcoin (39%) was paying for goods. But in 2017 over a half of crypto users (58%) would buy it for investing, while only 10% used Bitcoin for payments.
