August 27, 2018
According to the statement by the Russian company Kaspersky Lab, hackers from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have developed a malware for MacOS and Windows called AppleJeus.
It became knows after one of the crypto exchange employees downloaded infected application to his computer. The app itself was uploaded by fake developer with counterfeit security certificate. The application and the virus are supposed to be developed by the Lazarus group from North Korea.
As Kaspersky Lab says, this malware is one of the numerous attempts, successful or not, to enter the world of cryptocurrencies. The actions taken by the group demonstrate that is of certain interest to North Korea.
The virus for MacOS was developed for the first time. Kaspersky Lab believes a Linux-version to come soon. Provided thorough preparations with huge costs for fake certificates, the hacker group sees some potential in its malware which may generate large profits.
