Vitalik Buterin Announce Serious Changes in Ethereum
January 5, 2018
Vitalik Buterin announced the launch of two new subsidy programs to address the problems associated with the network scalability. This is especially relevant amid increasing amount of transactions in the network, reaching one million transactions per day.
Buterin says that the network scalability is 'perhaps the single most important key technical challenge' that developers must solve in order to make blockchain applications adopted massively.
The programs are aimed at two aspects: sharding and layer-2 scalability solution. Subsidy amounts for this programs are $50,000 and $1,000,000 respectively. Buterin noted that these grants are intended to cover the costs rather than be a source of profit for developers. However, he believes that the unique opportunity to work alongside with core Ethereum researchers is a very valuable experience.
Buterin also said that he welcome to participate all independent developers from different universities, academic groups and companies.
